We receive children and offer activities they do not have at home : chess, board games, school support. We offer food (mostly lunches) to everyone who requests, and we keep our door always open, even when budget is tight.
We work with volunteers and young adults as assistants and school support teachers. We run the place like a home, a haven, away from the noise and the temptations of the street, teaching social rules, implementing hygiene (now they ask for toothpaste when the tube is over), and offering other leisure activities (a good movie or a cartoon can be of great motivation for children to finish their homework).
By the very nature of our organization, the house that was first a private home has turned into a Social Center. Now that we receive up to twenty children, the place needs to evolve and the Social Center needs to become an independent place, with the proper installation and equipment.
Our goal for 2020-21
Our goal for 2020-21 is to separate the two functions, to run a Scolarship Center for Children with scholarships and to open a Social Center in the neighborhood.
The Scholarship Center welcomes a small number of children but take care of their needs from A to Z, and with the aim to help them obtain a scholarship to study abroad. This is the most ambitious program as it targets long-term benefits for the children and their families.
The Social Center in the neighborhood is the place where we can welcome more children and offer a lot of activities : school support, chess club, library, and computer room. We found a place that used to be a social center and which is now abandoned, and we are negotiating with the administration in order to re-open it.
A perfect school day
