Since the children we follow turn into young men after few years, and since the school dropping rate is quite high among them, and since our first motive it to provide support from school to professional life… Then e decided to launch an apprenticeship program in 2022.
WHERE ARE WE SENDING THE APPRENTICES ?
We meet with professionals that we know or who are recommended by friends.We explain them how our association work and what are our goals. Then we just ask them to take the apprentice for two months at no cost.
In this regard, we offer the youngster a monthly allowance, and a daily fee for food.
They usually work from 8 am until 2 pm with a short lunch break (except for apprenticeship in a restaurant).
Then, after two months if they work well, the manager of the place should give them job offer.
We can witness a clear difference among youngsters who live with both parents and those who live in mono-parental families. Unfortunately, even though all the good will we put at it, there is also quite a high dropping rate at apprenticeship.
But we are standing still.. Pushing for apprenticeship again and again.. Trying to offer them that missing role model : a benevolent and stubborn adult encouraging them not to drop out…
One of the youngster is very skilled and interested in technical activities. We sent them to a bicyle repair shop. They import second hand bicycles from Europe, import spare parts, rebuilt and sell the bikes. The kid was so good that not even after one month, the manager asked to hire him. The youngster could make a decent monthly payment, considering that he would make tips with clients bringing their bikes for repair.
Unfortunately the call for the hood was too strong. He wanted to hang out with his friends, and could not stay at the bike repair shop the whole day long… He wanted to quit earlier.. but it was not possible for the manager to accept that without creating trouble with the other emplyees…
Now we are still looking for an activity for this young man.
